The Brief

A problem to solve, not a blank canvas.

Johnnie Walker chose XO Lounge at One Airport Square — one of Accra's premium commercial addresses — as the venue for their House of Walker activation, celebrating 200 years of the brand. The space had the right scale and location. But it had a structural problem.

The venue's existing concrete seating — a large curved platform and a central cubby seating area — was too deep for the brand's planned display installations. The geometry didn't work. The displays would sit wrong. The activation couldn't proceed without resolving it.

Neewoody was brought in to fix the problem and deliver a finished installation to Johnnie Walker's exact brand specification: black and gold, with integrated lighting, built fast.

The Challenge

Adapting what exists to what the brand needs.

This wasn't a build from scratch. The concrete seating infrastructure was already there — fixed, heavy, and the wrong depth. Neewoody's job was to work with it, not around it.

The central cubby seating units were infilled completely to create flush, usable display surfaces — then finished for tiling by the wider fit-out team. The curved platform was the more visible transformation: structurally modified, then clad in MDF to the brand's black and gold specification, with integrated LED strip lighting channels running the full length of the base.

Every dimension, every colour, every material decision was dictated by Johnnie Walker's brand guidelines. There was no creative latitude — only execution accuracy. Under event pressure, with a fixed deadline and a global brand watching.

Process

From construction to brand activation.

The same space, before and after. Every surface visible in the finished installation was built or transformed by Neewoody.

Neewoody's Scope

Every item built to brand specification.

Every item below was designed, modified, built, and finished by Neewoody — to Johnnie Walker's exact brand specification.

01

Structural Infill — Central Cubby Seating

Existing concrete cubby seating units were too deep for the planned display installations. Neewoody infilled the entire structure to create flush, usable display surfaces ready for finishing.

02

Curved Platform Transformation

The existing curved concrete platform was structurally modified and fully reclad in MDF — transformed from raw concrete into the finished branded installation visible at the event.

03

Brand-Spec Cladding & Finishing

All MDF surfaces finished in Johnnie Walker's black and gold brand colours. Every dimension and colour match executed to brand guidelines with no creative deviation.

04

Integrated LED Lighting

LED strip lighting channels built into the full perimeter of the platform base — the continuous yellow glow visible in all finished photos is integral to the structure Neewoody built.

05

Display Shelving Unit

Full-wall black and gold shelving display unit — built to house brand merchandise and bottles for the heritage and flavour academy sections of the activation.

06

Event Turnaround

Delivered under event production timelines — a fixed deadline with a global brand activation dependent on the carpentry being complete and finished correctly.

What This Project Demonstrates

Commercial carpentry at brand activation scale.

House of Walker is a different kind of project from Neewoody's residential work — and that's the point. The brief had no room for interpretation. Brand guidelines are exact. Event deadlines are fixed. Global activations don't move for contractors who aren't ready.

Neewoody delivered. The curved installation became the centrepiece of one of Accra's most talked-about brand activations of 2020 — photographed by thousands of guests throughout December.

For developers, event producers, and commercial clients who need carpentry work delivered accurately and on time, this project is the reference.
